The RN7 is Madagascar’s most iconic road trip, stretching from Antananarivo to Toliara, offering a remarkable diversity of landscapes and cultures.
Along the way, travelers pass through the lush greenery of Andasibe National Park , discovering the highlands and vibrant towns before reaching Ranomafana National Park, famous for its rich biodiversity, lemurs, and dense tropical vegetation. Further south, the scenery transforms dramatically into the sandstone canyons, natural pools, and wide open spaces of Isalo National Park, one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes.
From green hills to dry savannas, the RN7 offers a true cross-section of Madagascar—blending nature, wildlife, and cultural encounters into an unforgettable journey. (13 days - 12 nights)
Day 1 - Arrival in Antananarivo
Welcome at Ivato Airport and transfer to the hotel. Free evening to recover from the international flight. Overnight in Antananarivo.
Day 2 - Drive to Andasibe
Travel through rural landscapes with possible stops at a private reptile and butterfly reserve. In the evening, optional night walk to observe mouse lemurs and chameleons. Overnight in Andasibe.
Day 3 - Andasibe National Park
Explore with a specialist guide in search of the famous Indri Indri, the largest living lemur. The park is also home to endemic birds, orchids, and reptiles. Visit a private reserve in the afternoon. Overnight in Andasibe.
Day 4 - Andasibe to Antsirabe
Return to Antananarivo, then head south along the legendary RN7. Arrive in Antsirabe, a charming colonial town with thermal springs. Ride in a rickshaw. Overnight in Antsirabe.
Days 5 - Antsirabe to Ranomafana
Head south along the scenic RN7 highway through the iconic landscapes of the Highlands. You will drive past stunning terraced rice paddies and traditional red-clay villages typical of the Betsileo tribe. After a stop in Ambositra, Madagascar's capital of woodcarving, the road twists and descends sharply toward the east. Watch the scenery shift dramatically from rolling hills to the lush vegetation and misty atmosphere of Ranomafana's rainforest.
Day 6 - Ranomafana National park
UNESCO-listed national park, Ranomafana is one of Madagascar's most important protected forests. Guided hikes to observe the rare golden bamboo lemur, endemic birds, and waterfalls. Overnight in Ranomafana.
Day 7 - Fianarantsoa & Ambalavao
Stop in Fianarantsoa, the cultural capital of the south, then continue to Ambalavao. Visit the Anja Community Reserve and its ringtailed lemurs among the granite rocks. Optional Antemoro paper workshop. Overnight in Ambalavao.
Days 8 - Horombe Plateau & Isalo
Cross the Horombe Plateau with its endless horizons and herds of zebu. Arrive in Isalo, an iconic sandstone massif. Cach tje sunset at the famous Isalo window. Overnight inIsalo.
Day 9 - Isalo national park
Discover a dramatic landscape of Jurassic sandstone massifs, deeply eroded over millennia into spectacular canyons, sharp peaks, and vast savannahs. This otherworldly terrain hides lush oases, natural swimming pools, and unique wildlife, including ring-tailed lemurs. It is a paradise for hiking, offering breathtaking panoramic views and unforgettable golden sunsets.
Day 10 - Isalo to Tulear and the coastal village of Ifaty/Mangily
After the land adventures, the journey turns toward the ocean. Crossing arid landscapes dotted with baobabs and sculpted Mahafaly tombs, then arriving on the southwest coast for well-deserved days of relaxation in Ifaty. Overnight in Ifaty/Mangily
Days 11 - Relaxing day
Entirely free day to enjoy the beach, optional activities, and the tropical atmosphere of the Mozambique Channel. Overnights in Ifaty.
Day 12 - Tulear → Antananarivo
Transfer to Tulear airport for the domestic flight to Antananarivo. Depending on the schedule, free time for last-minute shopping or visits in Tulear city/the capital. Overnight in Antananarivo.
Day 13 - International departure
After breakfast, transfer to Ivato International Airport for your departure flight.
